Gloria Mindock, former Somerville Poet Laureate and the founder of the Červená Barva Press, has published a new book of poetry, Grief Touched the Sky at Night. It is inspired by the Ukrainian/Russian War, and it is unflinching with its depictions of violence and the horror of war. I caught up recently with Mindock to talk about her new collection.

‘Truck O’ Treat’ at City Hall

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, along with Somerville’s Department of Public Works and Parks and Recreation Office, invited all local ghosts and ghouls to “Truck O’Treat” on Thursday, October 26, on the City Hall concourse. Lesley University’s leftovers feed the hungry

As 1 in 3 Massachusetts households faces food insecurity, it is estimated that Bay Staters discard one million pounds of food per year. To tackle both issues of food waste and food insecurity, Lesley University has partnered with Food For Free – the leading food rescue and distribution nonprofit in Eastern Massachusetts – to repurpose excess food from the school’s dining halls to feed those in need through the nonprofit’s Heat-n-Eats program.
