Assault
On 3/7/24 at approximately 5:25 a.m., Somerville Police responded to a business on Beacon St for report of a past assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated he arrived for work and observed a male party attempting to break into the business. The victim confronted the male and another male then came up behind him and punched him in the face with brass knuckles. The victim suffered injuries to his eye.

Last week, at a watch party event to recognize the inaugural season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) was named honorary captain of the women’s hockey team PWHL Boston. The recognition took place at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC and the gesture was meant to recognize the strong relationship between Canada and Massachusetts.

Somerville’s Memorial Day parade will return this year on Sunday, May 26, stepping off at 11:00 a.m. from the Davis Square Rotary (9/11 Memorial Granite Circle Site), up Holland Street, then proceeding to Broadway/Teele Square and ending at Broadway and North Street. The city’s annual remembrance ceremony will occur on Monday, May 27.

Museo Inmigrate: Stories of Resilience from Somerville’s Padres Latinos closing reception, March 23, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. — Photos by Bobbie Toner

Today is the last day to view the exhibit,  Museo Inmigrante at the Somerville Museum. Admission is $5, free for Museum members (memberships start at $25), and free for children 12 and under. The Museum is in the heart of Somerville on Central Street and Westwood Road, where it has stood for 100 years.

Teen Empowerment awarded $2 million in Yield Giving Open Call

On Tuesday, March 19, MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving announced The Center for Teen Empowerment, Inc. (Teen Empowerment) as one of the Yield Giving Open Call’s awardees working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States. Teen Empowerment, which works in Boston and Somerville, MA and Rochester, NY to engage youth as agents of social change, received $2 million.
