Alderman passes on Patrick, goes with Gabrieli

Alderman-at-Large Dennis Sullivan became the first city official to endorse a candidate for governor other than Deval Patrick this week when he formally endorsed Chris Gabrieli for the state’s top job. Sullivan had already been working as Gabrieli’s Somerville coordinator before the formal announcement.

Can you afford Assembly Square?

Assembly Square is finally generating big revenue – for high-priced Boston lawyers that is.
Somerville has paid the law firm of Palmer and Dodge $834,931.53 or $696,769.39, depending who you believe, for the creation and defense of the Assembly Square zoning laws, which were passed in 2004 and ruled “invalid” by a Land Court judge in March.

Not too much to talk about this week – with Summer vacations coming to a close Рthe local politicians will be back and the rumors will start to fly around. We managed to eek out a few things – and others that were too over the top (even for us). As a reminder again to all that are interested in the MaxPac development Рzoning changes should be sometime this month Рwe will find out what we can and oh yeah, that Rent Control, oops, we mean the Condo Conversion Ordinance is supposed to be making a comeback as well – we will get some dates so that the City won’t think we’re all asleep again.

Murder near Union Square
A Cambridge man who was arrested early this morning in connection with the investigation into a homicide in Somerville was arraigned yesterday. Valentino Facey, age 21, was charged with armed robbery, and being an armed career criminal in possession of a firearm.

News Talk for the week of Aug. 30
You know that known gang member who is working for the city at the police station? Well apparently he has been seen cleaning up in the Detective Bureau Рwhich apparently he is familiar with, since we hear he’s been detained there before.

Speaking of the Somerville Police, apparently last week the entire personnel of the station walked out because the janitor (was it who we think? read above) was waxing the floor – so for about half an hour the building was unmanned – we figured this can’t be true, but sources did get confirmation, so we’re just reporting it.
