Payback is a powerful thing. I remember my mother pointing her finger at me and saying, “wait until you have your own kids!” and, “I hope your children aren’t as mean to you as you are to me!”

Back then, we never thought that mom’s words would ever come true.  We weren’t trying to hurt our parents and make them crazy. We were teenagers. Raging hormonal hazards.

Disabled man stuck at Somerville Sunoco station

A resident of Brady Towers was stuck in the snow of an unshoveled handicap ramp at the Sunoco Gas Station on McGrath Highway.

The Somerville  man was yelling for help Friday afternoon for a half hour unnoticed when news staff arrived on scene and assisted the man.

Gun, knife threats to officer over double parking

A Medford man told a police officer he would “shoot [the officer and his] family with an AK-47” after the man double parked on Broadway so he could get a cup of coffee Jan. 28, police said.

Julio Marin, 32, of 566 Main St., told officers “the flashers are on” after they told him he could not double park on Broadway, police said. He then allegedly cursed at the officers.

The state of the union is…dire

The half dozen of you who regularly read this column may have noticed its absence over the past ten weeks. In November, my thumb had a brief but intimate relationship with my table saw.

The docs reattached the severed part. The cast is gone for now, and I can type. I would like to think that I can still poke my thumb in the eyes of the powerful and smug. So I’ll start with the President’s State of the Union speech.

Lady Anchors break school’s record, wins 10 straight

The Lady Anchors swept through January undefeated winning 10 straight games, which surpasses a school’s record of 9 straight games set in 1989. The streak began with a 51-29 win over Nazareth from Wakefield. And from that point on, the team finished January with a (10-0) record but more importantly remaining undefeated in the Catholic Central League. In that stretch, the lady Anchors played 5 straight road games which is remarkable considering how hard it is to get wins away from your home. “I’m very proud on our teams knack to have resilience through this streak. We won 3 league games which came down to an a overtime win over Lowell Catholic 46-45, a double overtime win over Pope John 47-45, and a one possession nail bitter verse Trinity Catholic 37-35, and Marian 35-34. We are finding ways to win and finish games,” quotes head coach Shawn Thornton. Monday night, the team traveled to Brookline to face non-league opponent Maimonides at 7:30.

Cambridge woman struck, injured on Washington Street

A 59-year-old Cambridge woman was struck and seriously injured as she crossed Washington Street at Tufts Street on Sunday, police said.

The woman was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was in stable condition Monday morning.

Man robbed at knife point

Police are investigating a robbery on Jaques Street at Fenwick Street in which a man was threatened with a knife.

The victim was walking on Jaques Street at Fenwick Street when two males confronted him and threw him against a fence, police said.

Healey begins work to unify

Students at the Healey School will no longer be seperated by academic program next year for the first time in almost 30 years.

Two schools in one building to merge

Somerville parents and educators are working to unify the Healey School after children in the building were divided into two separate programs for 30 years.

Volunteer parents, teachers and school officials presented plans to the School Committee on Monday to “create a new Healey School,” said Healey Principal Jason DeFalco.

SCATV celebrates access

Somerville’s youngest residents attend the Family Music Festival

Families from across Somerville gathered at the Argenziano School Sunday for the Family Music Festival.  The event was sponsored by Somerville Family and Community Connections.  Nomi Davidson, the director, described the event as “a party for the younger ones.”  She said, “It is a way to bring music into the kid’s lives.”
