Mayor Joseph Curtatone blows out candles on his 45th birthday cake with the help of his four children.
The surprise cake was brought out for the Somerville mayor at the home of Tony Lafuente during a back yard barbecue fund-raising event for the Ward 4 hopeful Tuesday evening.

Austin Duffy, 50, of 41 Rice St., Cambridge, June 20, 3:32 p.m., arrested at 4 College Ave. on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Marie Correia, 50, June 20, 3:41 p.m., arrested at 400 Somerville Ave. on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.

The Somerville Lions Club held its installation of officers on Friday evening in Somerville.
Paul Carroll was sworn in as the club’s new president for the 2011 year replacing outgoing President Bill Tauro.
Immediate Past President Bill Tauro was bestowed the honor of being the recipient of the first annual Somerville Lions Club “Sullivan-Lynch-Ciampa Excellence in Lionism Award”
as President for 2009-2011.

Emergency and utility crews work diligently to remove and disconnect a fallen light pole that was knocked down by a Uhaul truck.
Somerville police and fire units blocked the roadway for safety reasons causing Linwood St. to be impassable for hours. The incident occurred early Monday morning, no injuries were reported.
Office of Prevention, Trauma Response Network to host workshop surrounding national increases in prescription drug overdose
The City’s Health Department, Office of Prevention, and Trauma Response Network is collaborating with local organizations Save Our Somerville and Teen Empowerment to host a workshop entitled “How to Save a Life?” in response to the growing concerns nationally around the increase use of prescription drugs and overdose. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 28th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Cross Street Senior Center (165 Broadway).
