Somerville businesswoman charged with 32 counts of tax fraud

A Milford woman who ran a tax preparation business in Somerville has been arrested and charged with identity theft and tax fraud charges relating to her operation of that business. Rosa Ivette Colon, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated identity theft, filing false claims with the Internal Revenue Service and forging endorsements on U.S. Treasury checks in a 32-count indictment returned by a grand jury sitting in Boston, on December 7.

David White, 33, of 706 Old Country Rd., Westport, December 20, 8:22 p.m., arrested at 220 Washington St. on warrant charges of marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

If I could have anything at all for Christmas I would ask Santa to cure all the sick people in the world. Then I would have to ask for enough money to pay all my debts off. I would also ask for a few hundred thousand more for the kid’s college, a new truck, a new RV and a few vacations. Sorry to be so superficial, but that’s what I’d ask for. I always pray for everyone to enjoy good health and happiness and all that stuff, but I have to be honest. If Santa Clause could bring me what I ask for, it would be money. I was that little kid who opened the birthday card and shook it hoping folding money would pop out before even reading it.

Christmas week trash pickup days to follow normal schedule

Contractor to make next-day run all week long to serve homes operating on holiday schedule

The City of Somerville learned this afternoon that its trash contractor will be conducting trash pickup operations on its regular weekly schedule during the week after Christmas, but that crews would be performing a next-day pickup for residents who assume that the official observance of the Christmas holiday on Monday, December 26th, means a one-day delay in the normal trash schedule.

The State Ethics Commission approved a Disposition Agreement (“Agreement”) in which Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (“MSO”) Senior Deputy Sheriff Michael Jackson (“Jackson”) admitted to violating G.L. c. 268A, the conflict of interest law, by soliciting donations for a campaign fundraiser for then-Sheriff James DiPaola (“DiPaola”) from subordinate MSO employees during work hours.  Pursuant to the Agreement, Jackson paid a $5,000 civil penalty.

First Church Somerville does ‘Occupy Bethlehem’

In this holiday season, the First Church of Somerville decided to go tongue-in-cheek, recreating the Christmas story in Davis Square with a flavor of ‘Occupy.’ With no room or inn to let them stay, church members dressed as Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus sat out occupying Davis Square, as kings and courtiers presented gifts and wished them well, singing carols the whole way through.
