Early Thursday morning, members of the Somerville Police Department, with assistance from tactical officers from the North East Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC), executed two arrest warrants at two separate residences in Somerville. The warrants were authorized in connection with the investigation of an armed carjacking that occurred in Somerville on June 16.

This past Friday, Walmart announced that it is dropping its plans to locate stores in Somerville and Watertown.
When the subject of a Somerville Walmart first came up, Mayor Curtatone had said, “I want you to know that I will resist Walmart here in Somerville…I’m not about to let Wal-Mart come in to wreak havoc on our local workforce and business community.”1

Comprehensive accessibility plan to be funded in FY13 capital plan

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that the City of Somerville had embarked on an $80,000 study to develop priorities and a long-term schedule to enhance accessibility design compliance for the City’s more than 3,200 pedestrian ramps, sidewalks and intersections. Mayor Curtatone also announced that he would propose the inclusion of funding to support the development of a comprehensive accessibility review and multi-year ADA transition plan for all municipal facilities within the City’s updated capital plan.

Argenziano sixth graders were given an opportunity to ask questions of Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone. The topics discussed ranged from how he spends his days (in meetings, mostly) to what sports he plays in his free time (he does martial arts and coaches his sons in hockey, soccer and baseball), his favorite food (Italian) and music (a mix) during a late morning meeting last Wednesday between the mayor and the two sixth grade classes from the Albert F. Argenziano School at Lincoln Park.

The Council on Aging, led by Senior Project Manager Janine Lotti, went on a day long Essex River boat Cruise and Museum Trip. As you can tell by the smiles of this group, it was a wonderful day.
