Storage Auction Wars hits Somerville‏

A bidder racks up totals on his treasure finds from his unit.

Dozens of curious treasure seekers were lined up at the U-Haul located on Linwood St. in Somerville Thursday afternoon for their “abandoned storage unit auction.”

Bidder Jonathan Zajac of Derry, NH, said, “Some bidders paid around one hundred dollars for a unit and received thousands of dollars worth of treasures on their return. Others might have paid a little more and ended up with a bin full of worthless junk.”

Police responded to a 911 call reporting an alleged assault in progress at Summer and Putnam streets last Thursday morning. Dispatchers reportedly told responding officers that three men had exited a moving vehicle and were beating up one other man.

Back in 1999, when IKEA bought prime riverfront property near the largely derelict Assembly Square Mall, Somerville was struggling to find the best way to unlock our city’s stalled economic potential.  We knew that the 45-acre Assembly Square sites would be one of the keys to our economic future, but we weren’t sure exactly how to make it work.

The Somerville Alibrandis’ impressive winning streak has finally come to an end. Somerville started July with a two-game win streak already intact and kept their foot on the gas throughout majority of the month and got it up to eight games. Somerville defeated the AlThomas Athletics 6-3 to extend the streak, but it eventually concluded with a 10-5 loss to the Brighton Braves.

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Correction Officer Edward “Teddy” Dillon III, 27 of Lowell, who was a respected member of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office since 2008. Teddy worked the 12 a.m.–8 a.m. shift at the Middlesex House of Correction in Billerica and his job included conducting routine perimeter checks of the facility and nearby Middlesex Sheriff’s Office property.

Middlesex County correction officer Edward “Teddy” Dillon III was killed early this morning following a single car crash in Billerica.
