As I was driving to Taco Bell on Saturday (because my son wanted a nutritious meal), I noticed the “Welcome to East Somerville ” sign as we crossed McGrath Highway. It brought back a lot of my own East Somerville memories and gave me a chance to use some of The Somerville News weblog information. Most are first hand experiences, but some details have been donated “bloggily.” Let’s start by tossing back a couple.

Investigators from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are looking for witnesses to a pedestrian accident that occurred last night. Shortly before 8:20, a 21 year old Somerville resident, who is also a Tufts University student, was struck by a car as he crossed Powder House Blvd at Packard Avenue. The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he is in critical condition. The operator of the striking vehicle, also a Somerville resident, has cooperated with investigators.

Amendments proposed on Aug. 16 would require recipients of city-administered grant funds to adopt formal ethics codes; New law would extend city’s audit oversight to grantees and give city legal authority to suspend funding or demand repayment
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone today called on the Board of Aldermen to take up a proposal he submitted on August 16 that would expand the city’s abilities to require grant recipients to adopt conflict-of-interest codes similar to those that govern municipal officials. The proposed changes to the city’s existing ordinance (Chapter 15) would also give the city direct audit oversight over grantees as well as explicit authority to suspend disbursements to, and recover funds from, organizations that violate the provisions of the ordinance.
