An increase in recreational areas for off-leash dogs is under consideration after a recent Board of Alderman meeting on March 14. Dogs may soon be allowed more access to run free during designated times in specified open spaces.

Now that the Somerville High winter sports season has wrapped up, it’s time to roll the Highlander highlights. Achievements included:
• The boys hockey team winning the Greater Boston League title for the first time in about a quarter of a decade. The Highlanders accomplished the feat by defeating archrival Medford, 4-1, which was tied with Somerville for first place entering the crucial contest.

On March 6, Irish folk rock came to Somerville, courtesy of Somerville Theatre in Davis Square. John Doyle and Karan Casey performed for the packed theatre, with John Doyle on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Karan Casey singing. Other instruments were incorporated into the act.

The City of Somerville will lift its snow emergency as of 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19. Residents parked in municipal or school lots during the snow emergency will have a two-hour window starting at that time in which to move their vehicles. Cars still parked in city lots at 8 p.m. may be subject to ticketing and towing. For more information, please visit www.somervillema.gov/snow, or visit the city Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.
