The City of Somerville would like to invite all interested vendors to participate in the Summertime in Somerville Fireworks Celebration on Thursday, June 27 (rain date is on Friday, June 28).  The city is planning to have up to five (5) concession stands and vendors selling items such as balloons, toys (no toy guns permitted), food and beverage, etc. at the event.  The city will choose the location of these stands and will judge proposals on the following criteria: all licenses held by the business must be current, type of food/beverage/type of product or toy being sold, quality and price of product.

Daniel Roderick awarded IBEW Local 103 scholarship

SONY DSC Daniel Roderick, a four-year electrical student in the Somerville High School’s Center for Career and Technical Education (CTE), was selected for the IBEW Local 103 pre-Apprentice Partnership Program at Bent Electric. The apprenticeship is a five-year program in which participating students become members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.  IBEW Local 103 represents all of eastern Massachusetts.

As the summer event season approaches, the Somerville Arts Council is launching yet another decentralized event series that will take place throughout Somerville. Events such as PorchFEST, Dancing in the Streets, and Puppet Palooza allows the community to participate, interact, and engage in non-traditional ways while cultivating the idea of Somerville as a cultural arts incubator without walls.

Remember your first job? My first job was delivering newspapers – I used to pick them up at Abe’s office (Davis Square News Agency) on Highland Avenue where the new cupcake place is. I had the “Francesca” route – which included my own street.
