Residents who attended the first Green Line extension project meeting this year are the lucky ones because they are the first “passengers” in the world to take the extended Green Line train from Lechmere to Union Square, even if it was through 3D animation.

Police were dispatched to the vicinity of Madison and School Streets last Sunday evening on reports of two men fighting in the street.
Upon arrival, police reportedly found two males standing in the middle of the street but they were not observed fighting at that time.

The surprise spike in commercial property tax bills, in some cases increasing anywhere from 50 to over 100 percent, is less likely to have a trickle-down effect on businesses and their customers and could be more like the economic equivalent of standing at the base of Niagara Falls as property owners pass on the increase that probably seemed like a joke – a cruel one at that – when they opened their bill from the city.

The St. Clements High School Football Team was issued a citation of commendation by the Somerville Board of Aldermen at their Jan. 9 regular meeting. The team was congratulated for finishing first in the Catholic Central Small League with an undefeated record, and winning the Division 6 North Championship trophy.

Somerville Police released a sketch of a possible suspect in the recent assaults in the Porter Square and Union Square area.
From the Somerville Police:
Over the past three months, there have been three assaults on women in Somerville in the Union and Porter Square areas after dark in the evening hours and early nighttime. The Somerville Police Department is working to identify and apprehend the suspects as quickly as possible, and we wish to alert residents, especially women, to take safety precautions.

Committee of residents, community leaders and business owners will advise City on strategic planning decisions and development in Union Square
A group of 19 community members, local advocates and business owners has been selected for The Union Square Community Advisory Committee that will advise the City on strategic planning decisions and development in the Union Square area over the next two years, and Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced the selections for the committee today.

Carlos Diaz, 39, of 78 Allston St., Cambridge, January 7, 1:23 p.m., arrested at 180 Somerville Ave. on charges of shoplifting over $100 by asportation and furnishing a false name or Social Security number.
