The Somerville Pop Warner Football and Cheer Banquet is this coming Sunday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at Foss Park There will be food, 2013 season trophies. Games and more. Organizers will be selling SomerVILLENS T-shirts at this free event, which will include a 2014 sign-up table. The rain date is May 4.

The Local is for Lovers Mother’s Day Market will feature 30 local vendors selling everything from jewelry and handmade soap to sweets and clothing.

Members of the East Somerville community teamed with local businesses to draw hundreds of young basketball players and spectators to the first annual basketball tournament Feb 28. Students from grades 6-8 represented their neighborhoods.
Event organizers and East Somerville residents Judi Walker and Maisy Sullivan said the event brought together the best the neighborhood has to offer.

Experimental, intelligent, and environmental, turtle grass, a series of shadows, Muddy River Books, Brookline Massachusetts, 2014, Irene Koronas’ third full length book of poems. Her language resonates, melts into the past and jointly falls forward. The poems are written in traditional form, as well as, informational writings on nature, and romantic musing; she remains true to her own style, eclectic. Koronas is a well known local poet and painter, a Mass College of Art, graduate. She is poetry editor for Wilderness House Literary Review and a member of the Bagel Bards.

Easter used to mean two things. Candy and new clothes. We would pack the family into dad’s ‘63 Chevy and drive to Anderson Little clothes store in Wellington, Medford, to pick out the itchiest, most uncomfortable suit there was. The shirt and tie came from Sears. Those clip-on ties were so much easier than making a knot. The suit felt like it was made out of a burlap potato sack.
