The street sweeping parking enforcement season resumes tonight at midnight, the beginning of Wednesday, April 1, and residents are reminded that they must adhere to posted schedules, and move vehicles to the appropriate side of the road on sweeping days. Street sweeping schedules are posted on signs on every street that is swept in Somerville. Failure to comply with street sweeping parking regulations will result in a $50 fine.

Through a partnership with the Great American Rain Barrel Company in Hyde Park, MA, the City of Somerville is offering rain barrels to Somerville residents at a discount to help conserve water and save money. Barrels can be purchased through April 4, 2015 by visiting www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/c-124-somerville.aspx. Somerville residents may purchase the barrels at a discounted cost of $79 (compared to $119 regular retail price). Barrels are available in Forest Green, Earth Brown, or Nantucket Gray.

Yenasi Morales, of 42 West Baltimore St., Lynn, March 23, 12:07 p.m., arrested at Merrian St. on warrant charges of failure to wear a seat belt, use of a motor vehicle without authority, operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding.

This Monday will mark twenty years to the day since Deanna’s life was taken by the hands of another. In observance of this very sad milestone Deanna’s family and friends will gather together for a special prayer service to honor her and who she was, a kind, caring beautiful soul. All are welcome.

The Rotary Club of Somerville is happy to announce a competitive $10,000 scholarship to be awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing higher education. The award, funded by Rotary District 7930, serves to recognize an outstanding high school senior who has demonstrated his/her commitment to Service Above Self in his/her town, school or community. It is designed to encourage the recipient to dedicate his/her personal and professional life to improving the quality of life of people in his/her local community and beyond. Potential applicants will be interviewed by the Somerville Rotary Club and one applicant will be submitted to a final pool of applicants to be considered by the Rotary District.
