Curtatone, Ward 1 Alderman Matt McLaughlin, and the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) invite all interested community members to the third Otis Street Playground community meeting to review the three draft plans, and to select the components which will be included in the final plan. The meeting will be held at the East Somerville Community School Auditorium, 50 Cross St., on Wed., April 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  Please join us to help shape the design of the new playground. Spanish and Portuguese interpreters will be available. Construction at the playground is scheduled to start this summer. Rotary Club of Somerville announces competitive $10K scholarship

rotary_tileThe Rotary Club of Somerville is happy to announce a competitive $10,000 scholarship to be awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing higher education. The award, funded by Rotary District 7930, serves to recognize an outstanding high school senior who has demonstrated his/her commitment to Service Above Self in his/her town, school or community. It is designed to encourage the recipient to dedicate his/her personal and professional life to improving the quality of life of people in his/her local community and beyond. Potential applicants will be interviewed by the Somerville Rotary Club and one applicant will be submitted to a final pool of applicants to be considered by the Rotary District. Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are not eligible. Potential applicants should contact their high school guidance counselors or contact Paul Kaufman at 617-625-7604 for more information. Applications must be submitted to the Somerville Rotary Club by May 1, 2015.

somerville public schoolsThe following 2014-2015 School Year calendar changes to make up the 9 missed school days due to snow-related issues were approved on Thursday evening, March 26, 2015. In addition to the added school days, two previously scheduled Half Days* early in the spring have been shifted to later in the school year and will now be full days. All changes are noted below. Thank you.

  • Friday, April 3rd, originally a scheduled holiday, will now be an Early Release Day for all students. (pre-K dismissed at 11:30, K-8 at 12:00, High School at 11:33).
