Poodle skirts, bellbottoms and platform shoes came out of mothballs last Friday as participants in Flashback Friday at The Somerville City Club took a journey back in time and danced the night away to songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s. All proceeds benefited the Somerville PTA Scholarship Dinner Dance.

The Boston Irish Film Festival returned to the historic Somerville Theater for the sixteenth time to showcase the best in Irish film making. SCATV and Greater Somerville’s Joe Lynch covered opening night.

U Mass Boston’s Clark Athletic Center was alive with drama and excitement as soon as the Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers Huskies (20-3) and the Prospect Hill Academy Lady Wizards (18-0) arrived for the 11th Annual Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization Girls’ Basketball Championship Game this past Friday night.

It was a very exciting race day in Somerville on Sunday as men’s winner Andrea Sorgato became a three time champion of the race with a winning time of 14:48 and barely beating John Schilkowsky – who finished in 14:49 – by one second. Sorgato improved on his 2011 winning time of 14:49 and his 2010 winning time of 15:36.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan has confirmed that the body of a deceased adult male recovered last night from the Mystic River has been positively identified as Kenneth Manning, 35, of Malden.

Legislation aimed at curbing the epidemic use of opioids brings hope for those who have searched for new tools to help in the battle against the rampant spread of drug addiction.

Governor Charlie Baker signed landmark legislation into law on Monday to address the deadly opioid and heroin epidemic plaguing the Commonwealth and was joined by a robust group including Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Attorney General Maura Healey, Auditor Suzanne Bump, members of the legislature, law enforcement, health care providers, community leaders, individuals in recovery and others.
