It was announced last week that Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan met with Cambridge Health Alliance’s Chief of Pediatrics Gregory Hagan and Chief Community Officer Mary Cassesso at the CHA Windsor Street Care Center to raise awareness about summer safety for children.

Comicazi of Somerville will participate as a vendor in the upcoming Boston Comic Con, which will take place at the Seaport World Trade Center from Friday July 31 through Sunday August 2, 2015. Boston Comic Con includes celebrity guests, artist meet-and-greets, a film festival, a costume contest, a comic art auction, Cosplay Harbor Dinner Cruise and an official after-party with Laugh Boston.

Winter may seem like a distant memory at this point, but our local businesses are still feeling its effects. So last month the City teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce, Somerville Local First, and the East Somerville and Union Square Main Streets organizations to hold the SomerBliss promotion to encourage people to shop local and help our local retailers put a difficult winter behind them. Now we’re into July, which is Independent Retailer Month and another occasion to support our local businesses. But really, we shouldn’t need a special event to support our local businesses. We should always take advantage of their offerings when we can. Because they are the lifeblood of our vibrant streets, our thriving local economy, and our safe community. And like our residents, local businesses embody what’s great about Somerville: Our dogged persistence, our diversity, and how we help and support one another.

Police responded to a report of a car break in at a Norfolk St. residence last Thursday evening.

Arriving officers spoke to the victim, who told them he had just returned home from the bakery and left his car doors unlocked. He reportedly stated that when he returned to the car a few moments later to retrieve some items he found a woman, identified as Robin Partee, of Cambridge, sitting in the driver’s seat, rummaging through his belongings.

The menu board at Leone’s has gone from analog (here) to digital (below), but however you slice it, it’s still the best sub and pizza shop in Winter Hill.

Gone on vacation until the 20th of this month, Leone’s is closed and, as you can see here, they are sporting a new look on their menu board, replacing the old one with a new digital model, as well as replacing the old register. Lots of new things are happening at Leone’s, but one thing they won’t change is the quality of the best subs and pizza’s around.

This year’s festival and theme is Loops, design work by Dave Ortega.

Somerville is gearing up for the annual ArtBeat Festival in Davis Square. This event has been a Somerville staple since 1986. July 17 and 18 will see Davis Square transformed into a world of loopy expression and creativity – the theme of this year’s event is “Loops.”

Rachel Strutt, Somerville Art Council’s Cultural Director, has been part of organizing the festival for thirteen years. Her excitement about this year’s theme is that it is so open: “It’s playful and can be interpreted in many ways.”
