The Nave Gallery, Somerville’s beloved home for the arts, is holding a unique sale to rejuvenate the local art scene and keep the gallery running. The event, Nave 155, will feature work donated by over 70 artists on Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.

All Families are welcome to our registration for the 2017 season on Wednesday, April 5, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Stop & Shop Community Room, 2nd Fl., 799 McGrath Highway.

Nearly 5,000 people attended a rally in support of Somerville’s sanctuary city status in February, and the mayor has reaffirmed the city’s commitment to the policy in spite of recent threats of federal funding cuts.

On Monday of this week, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened cities that fail to assist federal immigration authorities with cutting off U.S. Justice Department grants, prompting civic leaders across the country that have established “sanctuary” status in their cities to stand in defiance of the proposed cuts.

The City of Somerville Board of Aldermen has approved the issuance of bonds for the construction costs related to the new Somerville High School.

At their regular meeting on Thursday, Board of Alderman approved the issuance of bonds for the construction costs related to the new Somerville High School.

Tonight, Wednesday, March 2, A Very Somerville Birthday Party is being hosted by the city from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The city is marking Somerville’s 175th birthday all year, but March is an especially important month. It was in March of 1842 that Somerville officially separated from Charlestown and became its own city. Help celebrate by joining an informal party on Broadway near the Charlestown line and then heading to Mount Vernon Restaurant for appetizers and cake. There will also be a cash bar where Aeronaut Brewing Company is unveiling a special gluten free Somerville birthday brew: Municipal Freedom Gives National Strength. Free admission. The Somerville Chamber of Commerce presented the 12th annual Business Town Hall meeting, Tuesday evening at the Rockwell in Davis Square.

In attendance were about 100 business officials and city personnel to hear Mayor Curtatone talk about the vision of the city and how it has become a leader in business growth over the past few years and is planning in the future to make Somerville a great place to live and work.

Located in the heart of Magoun Square, Old Magoun’s Saloon has been serving up traditional American and Irish food for over a decade.

After years of fierce debate, study and negotiation, the city took a big step last week in moving forward with the voter-mandated decision to go forward with the renovation/build-out for a new and improved Somerville High School.

Although the path has been long and somewhat tedious, in the end it came down to looking ahead to the future and ensuring that the city is well-equipped to teach our high schoolers in the best – and safest – manner possible.

Director Jimmy Del Ponte announces that Somerville’s Swinging  Singing Seniors, also known as The Moonlighters, will begin their 2017 season on Monday, April 3 at The Council On Aging building, 167 Holland St . They will meet each Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the second floor. The Moonlighters do concerts at area VNAs, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
