This technique was very popular in upscale restaurants in the mid 1970’s and is stilled used today.

Congratulations to Somerville High School Coach Fenton for being named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week after a three-game win streak. The Highlanders football program received a $1,000 donation in his honor. Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett’s visit and the check presentation was featured on “Patriots All Access,” which aired on Friday night.

The best books for small children take a simple concept and play it out in a way that isolates the subject and strikingly illustrates it, thereby focusing the child’s attention on it – and, for that matter, the attention of the adult reading it to the child. Windows does this with the subject of windows at dusk in an urban setting – in this case, Somerville, Massachusetts (although the area is not identified in the text, anyone who knows Somerville will recognize some of the stores and buildings, and the authors identify it in their bios).

Lyndell’s Bakery in Somerville held their 5th Annual Sean Collier Memorial Fundraiser this past weekend. They announced that it the first year ever that they raised over $10, 000! This brings their weekend total to $10,455 and their 5 year total to $36,245. When they started this 5 years ago, their goal was to hit $1,500 at the end of the weekend. They blew it away and hit over $6k. They thank the community for all the support in helping to keep Sean’s memory not only alive and well, but stronger than ever!

Join the City of Somerville and Tufts University on Saturday, November 11, for the finale in a series of events celebrating the 175th anniversary of Somerville’s separation from Charlestown. The “175th Birthday Soireé” will be hosted in Tufts’ Aidekman Arts Center from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on November 11, and will feature live music by local and University artists, food from local restaurants, and a cash bar in addition to samples of a special edition 175th Birthday beer by Aeronaut Brewing Company. Attendees will also have access to the Aidekman Art Gallery and its current exhibit “Chinese Myth, Folklore, and History,” featuring a 74 foot mural by artist Yuan Yunsheng.
