To Our Somerville Neighbors: Upcoming Overnight Work

Please be advised that Keolis will be performing night work along the Fitchburg Line as part of the current Early Works project. This work needs to be performed during non – revenue hours. Plenty of spaces are still open for the second session of the Somerville CIT/LIT Job Readiness program. The program serves approximately twenty-four 13-15 year olds in a 4 week long session.

Elias Guillen, July 14, 9:19 a.m., arrested at Broadway on warrant charges of disorderly conduct and shoplifting by asportation.

James Capobianco, of 62 Main St., July 14, 10:19 a.m., arrested at home on charges of disorderly conduct and municipal by-law or ordinance violation.

The Water Department will need to temporarily disrupt water service on Tuesday, July 18, for repairs starting at 9 a.m. to replace a hydrant and work on the water main. Service is expected to resume by approximately 3:00 p.m.

Throughout July and August, the Somerville Sunsetters will be bringing music and dance to neighborhoods around Somerville. Their one-hour shows are a great way to relax on a summer evening and meet your neighbors.

Five SCES staff members were recently certified with Honoring Choices Massachusetts, a program that provides guidance for adults and caregivers on ensuring that vital health care decisions are recorded, in the event of a crisis.

People often procrastinate when it comes to health care decisions, and that can lead to serious dilemmas for friends and family if there’s an unforeseen crisis. But a new initiative at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) aims to help people take charge of that process.

Gloria Mindock was appointed Somerville Poet Laureate in January of 2017. She has recently released a collection of poetry Whiteness of Bone. She is the founder of the Cervena Barva Press and has been a noted player in the Boston area arts scene for many years.

The annual “Somerville Reads” campaign returns for 2017, with the chosen title, El Deafo by Cece Bell.

El Deafo, a New York Times bestselling graphic novel about growing up hearing impaired, has received numerous awards, including a 2015 Newbery Honor, the 2015 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids (ages 8–12), and the 2017 Massachusetts Children’s Book Award. Cece Bell’s graphic novel memoir will appeal to readers of all ages, and draws on themes of acceptance, friendship, and the celebration of differences.

“Baby Driver” is currently showing at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.
