
The Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities invites all community members to its annual event in celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, on Tuesday, October 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event, “Inclusion Drives Innovation,” will take place on at the Highlander Café at Somerville High School (atrium entrance), and will feature visual art, poetry, music, and a panel discussion led by Adriana Malozzi, Founder and CEO of Puffin, and Rachel Tanenhaus.

SCES staffers Isley Goulart Derick Monteiro, and Alaudia Ramos recently sampled the new Portuguese cuisine for the Meals on Wheels program. Somerville-Cambridge Elder Service will start offering Portuguese meals delivery in October.
The Meals on Wheels program at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) is now offering home delivery of Portuguese meals during the week.
Nearly 10 percent of SCES clients are Portuguese speaking, and Meals Program Director Deb McLean expects the new options will be popular.

City and Somerville Public Schools offices will be closed Monday, October 9. Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be on a one-day delay all week. There will be no street sweeping on October 9 and meter and resident permit enforcement will not be in effect.

For the first time, the City of Somerville will broadcast select government and educational access programming in high definition, thanks to a partnership with the Somerville Media Center (formerly SCATV), and RCN. Ville TV, channel 613 on RCN, will split programming equally among City TV, Educational TV, and Somerville Media Center, and will broadcast programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Beginning at 9 a.m., the annual road race benefitting the Somerville Homeless Coalition will be held in and around the Davis Sq. area. Very short delays may occur in the areas of Holland St., Broadway in Teele Sq., North St., and Powderhouse Blvd., Broadway in Ball Sq., and Cedar St. MBTA buses will be temporarily rerouted, and signage will be placed at affected bus stops with information on temporary bus stop locations. Police officers were dispatched to a MacArthur St. residence in the early hours of Sunday on reports of an unwanted person.
Upon arrival, the officers were met by the reporting party, who appeared to be shaken and visibly upset, saying that she saw an intruder, later identified as Nicholas Stiles, in her room with what appeared to be a flashlight.
