A Tufts University student reported to Tufts Police on December 10 that at approximately 12:15 a.m., while walking near campus, a male had followed her on to her front porch. When the student turned around the male indecently touched her. The male then fled the area towards Conwell Ave. The victim was not injured.

The Allstate Foundation grant to support nonprofit’s work to help end domestic violence and financial abuse
Seven Allstate agency owners from the Greater Somerville area recently came together to secure a $7,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands® grant to benefit RESPOND, Inc. in addition to providing the organization with much-needed supplies collected from the multi-agency donation drive. The grant will support the nonprofit organization’s mission to help end domestic violence and financial abuse.

A team of Career and Technical Education students from Somerville High School (SHS) earned a number of Skills Leadership and Quality awards at the 2017 Massachusetts Fall SkillsUSA Leadership Conference last month. SHS students networked and worked alongside other SkillsUSA high school students from across the state for the two-day event, gaining valuable skills and making new friendships and connections. This was the fourth year that SHS has participated in this event. The Highlanders brought home the following awards from this year’s Fall event:

Thanksgiving is a day off for Meals on Wheels drivers at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES), and volunteers help make that possible. This year I was very happy to be part of that effort.
I had no idea what to expect or how many people would participate. I was pleasantly surprised to see at least 40 men, women and children waiting to help on Thanksgiving morning.

On Wednesday afternoon of last week, Somerville Police Dispatch received a call for shots fired in the area of Myrtle St. at Perkins St. Officers dispatched to the scene found one spent 9mm shell casing.
Witness reports provided police with descriptions of a male suspect and a vehicle seen leaving the area shortly after the shots were heard.
