“Lead Paint Safe Somerville” to provide no-interest loans to qualifying property owners, tenants for lead-based paint remediation.

Mitigating lead paint hazards in Somerville’s housing supply is one of the priorities on Mayor Curtatone’s affordable housing agenda. This month, the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development Housing Division kicks off a new program – Lead Paint Safe Somerville – designed to help address those hazards.

Following last year’s move to our new home in the beautiful and scenic Nathan Tufts Park, the Taste of Somerville, now in its 20th year, has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. Last year’s event served over 1,500 guests a comprehensive array of food, drink, and entertainment from 75+ restaurants, bars, beverage providers, and local artisans.

Join the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and the Somerville Bicycle Advisory Committee on Sunday, June 17, for the annual Historic Bike Ride. The 2018 theme is “Exploring Somerville: New Faces of Enduring Places.” The tour will begin from Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., at 2:00 p.m., and conclude at 4:45 p.m. at Bow Market in Union Square for complimentary refreshments. The ride is escorted by Somerville Police officers, and is designed for all ages and riding levels. A $3 donation is appreciated, but not required. Please remember to wear your helmet.

For those who are MassHealth-eligible, the Adult Foster Care (AFC) and Personal Care Attendant (PCA) programs can be great options for receiving in-home care with no out-of-pocket costs.

The Somerville Public Library invites all members of the community to participate in the 2018 Summer Reading Program, running from June 19 to August 15. All three library locations will be offering a variety of programs and prizes around this year’s national Collaborative Summer Reading Program theme,Libraries Rock!™. For the second year in a row, the Somerville Public Library will be offering programs for readers of all ages, including children, teens, and adults.

Join Weber Dance for the premiere of their new work: Her Sylvan Ascent

Please join us for the premiere of Jody Weber’s new work, Her Sylvan Ascent, on Thursday, June 14, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the Union Square Plaza (rain date: June 15).

Weber Dance has been immersed in this new project over the past two years and is excited to show it for the first time in Union Square. This piece was developed through the Arts Council’s Dancing in the Streets professional development program, and through a series of workshops to help choreographers hone their work led by New-York based dancer John Jasperse. It will be presented in Union Square as part of the ArtsUnion 2018 programming.

The Ryan Harrington Foundation hosted the Just One Run Fundraiser in Memory of Anthony D. Giurleo on Sunday, June 3. Proceeds from the race will directly impact the lives of those affected by the disease of addiction. Activities included the 5k adult race and walk and a children’s “Fun Run”. The winning runner in the men’s division was David Caggiano, of Peabody. The top women’s finisher was Leeallen Meyer, of Medford.
