Offered through a partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank, the program provides two bags of groceries each month. Medicare plans often change, and because of that it’s important to be mindful of Medicare Open Enrollment, even if you’re satisfied with your current coverage.

The open enrollment period runs from October 15 to December 7, and in most cases it’s the only time of year Medicare recipients can change plans and coverage.

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) and the Culinary Department at Somerville High School have partnered to offer Grab-and-Go meals this fall.

The meals are free for eligible recipients. Cambridge or Somerville residents over age 60 are eligible, as are spouses and dependents with a disability of eligible people who are receiving a meal.

On Monday, October 11, Somerville celebrates Indigenous People’sDay. City buildings will be closed, trash and recycling pickup delayed by one day. Street sweeping will be skipped that day.

Voters have until Wednesday, October 13, to register to vote or update their voter information for the Tuesday, November 2 election. In this election, voters in Somerville will cast ballots for Mayor of Somerville; four City Councilor-at-Large seats; Ward City Councilor in Wards 2, 5, and 7; and School Committee Members in Wards 3 and 7.
