The City of Somerville has signed a new agreement with Unit A of the Somerville Municipal Employees Union (SMEU), providing wage increases, updated salary scales, and expanded benefits for employees who deliver essential services across City government. The agreement covers Fiscal Years 2023 through 2025.

“Our employees make City services possible. They deserve fair pay, good benefits, and a workplace where they feel valued,” said Mayor Jake Wilson. “I’m grateful to Unit A and our City team for the work that brought us to this signing.”

Key provisions include:

·       A 3% COLA for FY23 and a 3% COLA for FY24.

·       FY25 wage adjustments based on the City-wide wage and compensation study, including a new classification system and salary scales.

·       One additional week of vacation and a transition to a vacation accrual system.

·       Increases to the bonus recognizing employees’ years of service.

·       Eligibility for the City’s new paid family and medical leave benefit.

The agreement advances the administration’s focus on making Somerville an employer of choice, with competitive wages and benefits that help the City recruit and retain a strong municipal workforce.
