Don’t Give It A Name

Christopher Cavallo
after Keats, and for Amy
I could write a poem
about your back alone.
I’d start with the blades,
sharpest parts; place
my big, stupid head upon
your small, stay there one
or two days; just as you think
to leave I would attack.
Throw all my dull blubber around
—with or without any sounds.
Is there anything dumber
than our most primal, core
instincts? Please don’t answer;
I might not like what I hear.
Just let us find
one more time
that sole and singular
ecstasy-moment together.
And what then, my dear, is Love?!
why, we can’t even explain it to God.
— Christopher Cavallo
