Midnight on the Charles

Windows glowing
on the ice. Blue light
of strangers, dancing
to the riot of
Bebop. Hunger
strains the land. I
press a rose petal
to your sodden
cheek and wonder
if this was ever love,
at all. Marionettes
dangle from robitussin
windows. This
is the Fun-Land, where
dreams are delivered
to your door. Take
your serum now, and
sway to the saxophone’s
hum. Thrust against
the creamy cymbal
bop. Ragtime drool,
upon your ashen scars.
Frozen dewdrops lounging
beneath the stars.
