Celebrating Three Decades of Community Action

The Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) will host its 31st annual Somerville 5k Road Race on October 3rd in Davis Square, continuing a tradition that has united runners, volunteers, and supporters for more than 30 years in our mission to support our neighbors, striving for stable housing and food security in Somerville and beyond.

This Road Race has deep roots in the Coalition’s history and in the surrounding community. What began three decades ago as a grassroots fundraising effort has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated races, drawing hundreds of participants each year. Last year more than 500 friends, family members, and supporters took to the streets to help tackle housing and food and housing insecurity. Over the years, the race has seen record turnouts and has been voted one of New England’s top 75 races.

The 31st Annual Somerville 5K Road Race will take place on Saturday, October 3rd, beginning at 9:00 AM in Davis Square, rain or shine. Registration is open to individuals and teams, and volunteer opportunities are available for those who prefer to cheer from the sidelines. Tiered fundraising prizes are offered, with rewards scaling as participants raise more in support of the coalition’s mission of finding everyone a home.
