Do I Die Today

Susan Isla Tepper
That curse is the light
behind anyone’s guess.
You move it moves
a few years back
then forward
a sickening rotation;
startling even the crow
quietly on a branch.
You boil two eggs in shells.
Five fucking years suspended
they call this life—
they say Oh get on with it.
Have the eggs been boiled
hard for peeling?
You are willing to go
astray, go down in the pit
take a look around
decide.
