St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. To get into the spirit of celebration, here are a couple of suggestions to get the festivities started. Head out to The Burren in Davis Square for dinner and a show. Starting on March 13th through the 17th, there are 13 shows featuring tunes, ballads, stories and dancing. To go along with the show a traditional dinner your choice of either corned beef and cabbage or Guinness beef stew with soda bread will be available. Check out their website for additional information and a link to purchase tickets for the event, https://www.burren.com.

Just up the street in Teele Square, PJ Ryans is another great gathering place for some great Irish fare, and where the Guinness and Smithwick’s Irish Ale are sure to be flowing.

Of course, there is another option, cook at home and invite a bunch of family and friends for some corned beef, colcannon, carrots and Irish soda bread, see recipe here for the soda bread, https://www.thesomervilletimes.com/archives/56820.

This past Sunday I prepared a sous vide (https://www.thesomervilletimes.com/archives/79454) corned beef cooked at 140 degrees for 50 hours, sautéed carrots with butter and parsley, and a colcannon with russet mashed potatoes with kale, cabbage, green onions with plenty of cream and butter, Irish soda bread on the side all served with a Finger Lakes dry Riesling for the perfect match.

Whatever your plans, enjoy the great food, music, friends, family, beer and most of all, remember, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! Sláinte!
