Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the Ville
Detours were testing our joy and goodwill
On Broadway the traffic caused all kinds of pain
Trying hard to not drive in that empty bus lane
The new High School is coming along at good pace
And condos are rising all over the place
Election Day happened but alas I do fear
re-elected again were … “insert all names here.”
I asked Santa Clause to be kind and be fair
And don’t let them tear down my dear Davis Square
I jacked up the furnace to warm up the chill
And I dreaded another great big water bill
We hit the Mt Vernon for some fine tasty fare
It took me an hour from Davis to there
We said goodbye Victor’s
But happy to say
There will soon be a much larger Ball Square Cafe
As I drove through the city I saw lots of changes
Man buns and cyclists and so many strangers
I try to be friendly I smile and say hi!
But they look at me like I’m a a crazy old guy
Old kids like me sometimes feel sad and blue
We think of the old days and friends that we knew
At Western, Northeastern, and of course Southern too
And our dear precious High School, the red and the blue
For Christmas how great of a gift it would be
For Santa to bring us 1983
So some of our family and friends who have passed
Could join us at Christmas for memories and laughs
If everyone came back to life for one night
That would be quite a gift, it would be out of sight
And our dear old friend Santa who never forgets
Would also bring back all our dear parted pets.
Hi Poopsie and Oscar and Cosmo our Pug
How I’d love to give Chanel and Louie a hug
On my Christmas list just like last year is the same
More help for addiction and people in pain
For God to take care of the sick and the weak
And watch over the poor souls who live on the street
For folks with depression, anxiety and stress
For all of you suffering, to you may God bless
Instead of complaining for things we have not
Let’s try to be grateful for all that we’ve got and remember that driving is not a big race
Be cautious drive carefully so we all arrive safe
I can’t think of anymore rhymes I can write
So, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
