Sean Collier Memorial Fundraiser

The 7th Annual Sean Collier Memorial Fundraiser took place over the weekend Lyndell’s Bakery on Broadway in Somerville. They had Boston sports memorabilia that they raffled off, along with gift cards and much more. $1 from every half-moon sold went to the Sean Collier Memorial Fundraiser.

Over the years, the owners of Lyndell’s have always created ways to give back to the community and participate in efforts to help others. In 2013, when the Boston Marathon Bombing occurred and MIT officer Sean Collier was gunned down, David Galatis, a member of the family, wanted to create a fundraiser that would help perpetuate Sean’s memory and heroism.

In the Fall of 2014, David along with help from the Somerville Auxiliary Police and the Collier Family created The Sean Collier Memorial Scholarship that would be awarded annually to Somerville High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in Law enforcement.

Lyndell’s offered to contribute $1.00 for every famous half-moon sold and also sponsor a raffle with extraordinary prizes. In six years, since 2013, the annual drive has raised over $40,000 for the fund with Lyndell’s setting aside one weekend each year in October for the fundraising activities. This year’s will be added to that amount.

The Galatis Family will pledge to continue to host and support this annual event until the $100,000 mark is reached. It is the Family’s way of paying tribute to Sean Collier’s memory and assure that others understand the sacrifice Sean made to protect us all.

The Sean Collier Memorial Scholarship Fund is a separate permanent endowment fund under the auspices of the Somerville High School Scholarship Foundation. For more information about Lyndell’s Bakery, go to Lyndells.com.
