Upcoming Vision Zero safe streets meetings and Public Hearing

The City of Somerville has been working to produce a strategic plan to guide its safe streets work, using the global “Vision Zero” movement as a framework to eliminate traffic crashes that result in severe injuries and fatalities. A series of community engagement opportunities have been scheduled for residents and stakeholders to discuss the city’s public policy framework around safe streets.

Upcoming opportunities include:

Community Meeting, Wednesday, March 27, 6:30 p.m., East Somerville Community School auditorium, 50 Cross St.

Public Hearing, Wednesday, April 3, 6 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 93 Highland Ave.

Community Meeting, Wednesday, April 24, 6 p.m., East Somerville Community School auditorium, 50 Cross St.

The upcoming opportunities are one step in an ongoing dialogue about how our community can accelerate positive change and safety and equity for all users of Somerville’s streets. The community meetings will offer information and interactive discussion, as well as Q&A as we workshop our goals. The public hearing is an opportunity for residents to testify for the record on their concerns, priorities, or suggestions for safe streets planning.

Vision Zero is a worldwide public policy movement that focuses on the goal of eliminating traffic crashes that result in severe injuries and fatalities. Somerville has committed itself to pursuing Vision Zero and is currently preparing an action plan against which progress will be measured each year.
