On June 4, 2018 at approximately 5:20 a.m.  Transit Police officers assigned to the North District received a radio call to respond to the MBTA’s Alewife station for a report of an MBTA employee being assaulted. Upon arrival officers observed several people attempting to restrain a male on the platform, later identified as Charles Mills, 29, of Somerville. Officers intervened and after a brief struggle with Mills were able to place him in restraints.

Witnesses on scene informed the officers of the following: Mills, while seated on a bench, was screaming profanities regarding holding the train. Suddenly and without provocation Mills got up from the bench and violently attacked a female MBTA employee, who was walking past Mills, throwing her to the platform. Mills then proceeded to assault the victim/employee while straddling her. The victim was able to break free and get up from the platform, Mills then began to throw punches at the victim. At this time several employees came to her aid.

Mills was placed into custody and transported to TPD HQ for the arrest booking process.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.
