Tree Clearing and Grubbing to Commence on West/South Side of MBTA Right-of-Way

Beginning in Medford and Moving South to Lechmere and Union Square Areas

In order to take advantage of construction mobilization efficiencies and the availability of equipment and workforce, the Design-Build (DB) Entity for the GLX project, GLX Constructors (GLXC), will begin tree and stump clearing and trash removal operations in selective areas along the west/south side of the MBTA Lowell Line right-of-way.

TARGET START: Week of May 21, 2018

Duration: 2 to 4 weeks.

Areas impacted: West/south side of alignment from Winthrop St. in Medford to Lowell St. in Somerville, then moving south to the Lechmere (Cambridge) and Union Square (Somerville).

Purpose of Work: Expand the usable space in the right-of-way (ROW) while creating a safe work zone for GLX construction and future train operations.

Approach: Clearing will start north of the College Avenue Bridge (on west/south side of alignment) and progress down to Lechmere Station. Trees not removed during this phase will be cleared at a later date.

Impacts: All work will be conducted in the ROW. Expect some noise from chainsaws and heavy equipment hauling away debris. Weekdays 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weekend work is expected.
