He takes his bike everywhere

Police officers were dispatched to the Rite Aid store on Somerville Ave. last week on reports of an alleged shoplifter engaging in theft of store property at that location.

The officers were informed that the suspect, later identified as Domingo Peters, of Cambridge, had walked his bicycle into the store with him. Upon arrival, the officers had no trouble locating Peters as he was the only one in the store who had a bicycle with him.

Before confronting Peters, the officers were briefed by store personnel regarding the suspect’s action prior to their arrival.

According to the store employee’s report, Peters entered the store carrying a semi-transparent shopping bag marked as coming from Star Market containing a few items. As time passed, the bag appeared to be filling up with more items.

The store employee also reportedly told the officers that someone from the nearby Star Market had alerted them to keep an eye on Peters as he entered the store.

The officers approached Peters and asked if he had receipts for the items in the bag.

Peters reportedly told the officers that he had bought the items at the Dollar Tree store and that he did not have the receipts with him.

When the officers pointed out that Peters was carrying a Star Market bag, not one from Dollar Tree, he reportedly became angry and started shouting at the officers, and insisted that he paid cash for the items in the bag.

The officers reportedly pointed out that some of the items in the bag had Rite Aid tags on them, at which time Peters reportedly became even more boisterous and shouted insults at the officers.

Peters was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting by asportation and disorderly conduct. Both he and his bicycle were taken in for booking.
