Governor

We support and are voting for Republican candidate Charlie Baker for Governor. He has a thought out plan and vision for Massachusetts.

With all that’s going on in the state now we think it’s about time we elect someone who will be more responsive to the needs of everyone.

Charlie Baker has a proven record both in the pubic sector under Governor Weld and in the private sector, saving Harvard Pilgrim from going under.

He will make responsible decisions and his promise not to raise taxes is refreshing. We have been taxed and feed to death. Everywhere we go there is an added fee or tax to everything.

Another point that swung us to his side is the recent admission by his opponent, who might be interested in illegal aliens having the vote and Charlie clearly isn’t for that. Not that it can happen, but the very idea just tells you the direction in which Coakley wants to steer Massachusetts, as opposed to the rational thinking of Charlie Baker.

We hope you join with us here at The Somerville Times in voting for Charlie Baker for Governor. We need to get away from the extreme left part of the Democratic Party of today. Look over his record online on his website and compare it to his opponent’s. http://www.charliebaker2014.com.

Attorney General

We endorse and support Maura Healey for Attorney General. She has the experience, and we feel she is more qualified to do this job.

She has been with the AG’s office now for many years and has made it clear that she does not need to be a work in progress. We strongly support her for the job. She has a proven track record in the Attorney General’s office. http://www.maurahealey.com.

Secretary of State

For Secretary of State we have always supported and continue to support William Galvin, by far the best Secretary of State we have probably ever had. He has always been a leader and continues to bring to this office more and more to help the residents of Massachusetts.

We cannot say enough about his role as Secretary of State and what he’s done. He is a man with conviction, dedication and ethics that we need, so continue to support him along with us as we endorse William Galvin for Secretary of State. http://www.billgalvin.org.

District Attorney

Of course, we endorse Marian Ryan for District Attorney. We did so during the primary and we still do. She is from here and has local roots, and she is qualified for the job of Middlesex County District Attorney. Governor Patrick thought so when he appointed her last year when DA Leone resigned.   Ryan has worked almost her entire law career in this office as an ADA. We are proud to support her for the job.

State Representative 34th Middlesex District

We endorse Christine Barber for Somerville/Medford State Representative of the 34th Middlesex District because she is right now the best choice for the voters here in Somerville. Even though she seems to be a one-issue candidate and leans more to the extreme left, her opponent from Medford is a nice guy, but his answer regarding the Green Line extension did not sit well with us. We need to have someone who is strongly in favor of it and will continue to work with all the residents and politicians of Somerville to keep the Green Line moving and become a reality.

We also feel she would work well with Denise Provost, the other State Representative here in Somerville, whom we also support. Other than that, we wish Barber would be less extreme in her progressive views, but for now she is going to get our vote (all who work here at The Times live in the district). Let’s hope she works hard over the next two years to represent us well. We think Christine Barber is the best-qualified candidate at this time. http://www.christinebarber.org.

State Representative 27th Middlesex District

We endorse for Somerville/Medford State Representative of the 27th Middlesex District current State Representative Denise Provost. We think she has done a great job representing us, the residents of Somerville.

She is dedicated and strongly committed to representing the entire city and all its residents, not just a small few. Provost is everywhere. She makes her presence known and is outspoken in her views.

If you didn’t know anything, you do know where Provost stands on most of the issues. She is not extreme, but is very fair and you can talk to her about the various issues. You might not agree, but she is always available to talk to anyone. http://www.deniseprovost.org.
