SFD responds to truck fire on grounds of St. Catherine’s rectory

At 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, the Somerville Fire Department was notified of a truck fire on the grounds of St. Catherine’s rectory at 179 Summer St. Firefighters arrived to find a landscaping truck on fire with flames spreading to a tree and leaf piles nearby.

A landscaping crew was on site, removing leaves from the property at the time of the fire. An explosion also occurred and was contained to the truck.

The fire was extinguished without any damage to the nearby rectory. One firefighter suffered a facial injury when he was struck by a hose coupling and was transported to the hospital.
