The City of Somerville held a ceremony of remembrance to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while in service to our country.

The ceremony took place today at Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery on Broadway between Alewife Brook Parkway and North Street. Speakers featured Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, City Council President Matthew McLaughlin, Director of Veterans’ Services Ted Louis-Jacques, and several members of the local veterans community.

It is so thoughtful of the City of Somerville, The Mayor, former Mayor Gene Brune, members of the City Council, members of the Somerville Fire Department, Veterans, and citizens to take time to remember those that have given their lives and service to defend us and keep us free.

Our Veterans never uttered the words “What’s in it for me?) when they answered the call to duty. We have the finest Military in the world. Next time you see a veteran, pause, shake their hand, and thank them for their service to our nation. They deserve it and they will appreciate the gesture. We owe all of them, past, present, and future, a debt that can never be repaid.
