On Monday, 7:00 p.m., Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Mystic Avenue at Shore Drive in Somerville. The driver of the vehicle sped away on Mystic Avenue after hitting the victim. Responding Troopers and other first responders found the victim, a 33-year-old Somerville man, lying on the sidewalk with serious injuries.

The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he remains hospitalized.

Investigation by Troopers from the State Police-Medford Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section developed information suggesting that the suspect vehicle was a hatchback, generally orange in color.

The vehicle has been located with assistance from Somerville Police. It is at a State Police facility where it will be processed for evidence. The investigation is ongoing to identify the operator, as well as to determine the exact path of travel of the vehicle and the pedestrian prior to the crash and to determine criminal charges.
