Homemade Corn Tortillas

Just a few weeks ago I picked up a package of store-bought corn tortillas and was extremely disappointed with the texture, taste, and overall quality of the product. Then I thought, how hard could it be to make my own? Let me tell you, not hard at all!

Since I make my own arepas using PAN corn meal, I thought to look up how to use the same corn meal to make tortillas. They came out great. A fresh corn flavor, a pliable texture in just minutes. I then tried a second brand, Maseca. I actually prefer the Maseca for the tortillas. It has an intense corn flavor, very pliable, and enhances whatever filling you add to the taco.

There is no need for a tortilla press to make them, but it can be used for many other things like, naan, pitas, pizzas, and other flatbreads. You can use the recipes on the packages or go to the websites with numerous suggestions and recipes.

You can even check out recipes in general to come up with countless ideas from independent sources. My next recipe search will be for the best flour tortilla I can come up with. Go ahead and give it a try!
