Our View of the Times – August 18

On August 18, 2021, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

Those in public service must be ready willing and able to rise to the occasion when called upon to do so. Each one of us, whoever we may be supporting in this year’s local election races, is searching our heart to determine whom we feel will best fill those roles.

Most of us seem to be very confident that our favored candidates are up to the task. Others bemoan a lack of integrity or skills required to do the job well among those who are running.

Either way, if we feel passionate enough in our convictions then it is clearly incumbent on each of us to do our part and make sure we make our voices heard by voting in the upcoming Preliminary Election on September 14.

There’s a lot at stake this time around, what with the selection of a new mayor and several City Council seats up for grabs. The choices made in these upcoming elections will have a big impact on the city and its residents.

This means that we must have the foresight and capability to register for voting if we have not already done so. The process is quick and easy, and is an absolute requirement for being allowed to cast a vote. There really is no excuse for not voting. Registration continues through August 25 via the usual means. Specific info is available at www.somervillema.gov/departments/elections.

Let us hope that the those elected will rise to the occasion and realize the potential they may have to become as great as others who have gone before them. Now, it is time for us to rise up and do what we must to make sure our votes are counted.
