After a tumultuous year that saw a global pandemic, many businesses big and small were forced to close their doors. However, as restrictions loosen around the Commonwealth, many establishments have begun to open and flourish.

One of these places is an Italian-American restaurant, Premiere Broadway. Set to open in mid-July by the local Zammuto family, this restaurant will be located at 517 Broadway at Magoun Square in Somerville.

According to owner Koryn Zammuto, Premiere Broadway is seeking to become a part of the larger Somerville community. One of these ways is in sourcing the food served at their establishment.

“We’re going to be getting 90 percent of our food from local farms. Whether it’s poultry, fruit, or vegetables, milk, everything is going to be from local farms. So, everything is going to be in support of local businesses,” Zammuto said.

The restaurant wants to be an integral part of the community in more than one way. Zammuto also spoke on how the restaurant will seek to help local young artists showcase their work.

“We have spoken to the PTA and some of the programs for Somerville youth including the Somerville Arts Council and we are going to utilize our area and make a plot for the children to come and showcase their music,” Zammuto said.

Due to COVID, the restaurant has met its fair share of setbacks, one being extensive delays in building the establishment. According to Zammuto, these delays grew increasingly longer.

“Through COVID, it was a lot harder than we thought it would be just because everything seemed to take so much longer than expected. The whole COVID thing really threw us a curveball,” Zammuto said.

On June 15, the mask mandate in Massachusetts was lifted. The relaxation of COVID restrictions has helped local businesses and the broader Somerville economy lift back up.

Zammuto herself also expressed confidence in how their combination of safety measures and the easing of restrictions will help Premiere Broadway be successful.

“I think people want to get out, I think people are eager to get out. Our establishment has garage doors surrounding it, so there’s airflow going all the way through the building and what we’ve done is that we’ve put in a commercial-grade water filter and a commercial-grade air filter so that everyone feels safe,” Zammuto said.

Premiere Broadway is currently hiring. More information can be found on their website: https://premiereonbroadway.com.
