Applications for Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds are now open for projects that preserve Somerville’s historic resources and expand and improve its parks and recreation land. An estimated $1 million is available for projects in these areas this fiscal year.

The application process has several steps. Applicants should take note of the following deadlines and dates:

Friday, June 11, 12:30 p.m.: Pre-Application Forms Due
This form is required only for community members proposing a project on city land or requesting funds for a feasibility study.

Thursday, July 1, 6:30 p.m.: Application Workshop
Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to attend this virtual workshop to learn more about the application process. A recording of the workshop will also be posted online after the event.

Monday, July 12, 4:30 p.m.: Eligibility Determination Forms Due
This one-page form allows the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) to determine if a proposed project qualifies for CPA funds. The CPC will contact applicants later in July to let them know whether their proposal is eligible. Projects that do qualify will then be invited to enter the full application process.

Monday, September 6, 4:30 p.m.: Full Applications Due
Projects determined eligible through the eligibility determination phase will be invited to submit a full proposal.

All application forms, instructions, and virtual workshop details are available at somervillema.gov/CPA.

An additional $1.2 million will be available to support community housing projects. The Somerville Affordable Housing Trust Fund will release the application materials for those funds later this year.

Interpretation into Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Kreyol, or Nepali may be available upon advance request by contacting the SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs at somerviva@somervillema.gov or calling 311.
