An Oak Street house in Somerville was blown to one side, threatening damage to a neighboring home, as a powerful storm hit the region Monday evening. The house, which has been undergoing renovation, leaned precariously to one side as the weather system blasted through the area.

Residents of the home next door were alarmed as they watched the structure gradually tilt towards them, but catastrophe was averted when emergency crews put support beams in place to prop the building up until the storm passed.

The house is scheduled to be demolished after the incident rendered its structural integrity unsafe. Demolition is set to begin on Wednesday, with the building being taken apart from the top down, starting with the roof.

According to reports, Monday’s storm knocked out power to nearly 50,000 homes in the region.

  1. When I lived in Texas, we had a similar situation, only then we had a tornado that knocked down the house so hard and ripped everything off, that the house looked even worse. I remember that for some reason our house suffered the most, but we still did not demolish it, all along the street we tried to put it in place and secure it with high quality, I had neighbors who were working in the repair and this helped us. I hope these people will do well too. Because it is very difficult to survive. Good luck to them!
