Students at Tufts University staged a sit-in on their campus last week, in protest of the university administration’s move to ask their janitorial services contractor, DTZ, to lay off several part time janitors who have been working throughout the Tufts system.

The Tufts Labor Coalition has been working to persuade the administration not to administer these cuts.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week Tufts Labor Coalition students conducted a 33-hour long sit-in in the Tufts administration building.

Students made the demand that there be no cuts until the contract renewal period arrived and slept overnight in the building.

An agreement not to lay off any workers until at least April 2015 was signed by Executive Vice President Patricia Campbell.

Additional agreements regarding transparency and accountability were also signed.
