Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 2 Councilor J.T. Scott, and the city’s Planning staff invite you to a meeting to discuss initial steps toward achieving the neighborhood plan for Boynton Yards. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Building, 220 Washington St.

The community-driven Union Square Neighborhood Plan calls for the development of Boynton Yards to help achieve SomerVision goals for the creation of housing, jobs, open space, and commercial tax revenues. To advance this process, the city is studying the infrastructure requirements needed to begin development in Boynton Yards, which is the southeast portion of Union Square extending south of Somerville Ave, between Webster and Medford Street.

Identified as transformational in SomerVision, these blocks are particularly challenging for redevelopment due to outdated infrastructure, including an aged combined water and sewer system, and lack of a sufficient street network. Significant investment in infrastructure upgrades will be necessary to unlock the potential of this area. A presentation on this topic by city Planning Division staff will be followed by an open discussion. We hope to see you there.
