Through Traffic to Be Restored Five Months Early
*

As Green Line Extension construction has progressed, the MBTA announced this week that a new schedule has been determined that will restore through traffic on Washington St. five months earlier than previously anticipated.

In a newly released schedule adjustment, the Washington St. Bridge, in East Somerville near McGrath Highway, will remain closed until approximately April 2020. The bridge and its underpass closed in April 2019 to advance GLX construction. The original schedule called for the Washington St. Bridge and its underpass to reopen in the fall of 2019, and then close once more for several months in the spring of 2020. This schedule adjustment will enable through traffic to be restored approximately five months earlier than previously planned.

All existing detours for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and MBTA bus routes 86, 91, and CT2 will remain in effect until April 2020. Detour maps and directions are available on mass.gov/GLX in the “Bridge Closures” section.

  1. You gotta be ******** me! says:

I knew they would do this. Instead of getting at least some temporary relief from all this non stop construction the state decided it would save money instead. Let’s see if we can close the Lowell street bridge while were at it? Or how about adding a bus lane on Highland ave? Might as well if we’re going to be closed for business anyway.

I don’t get the complaint. Just get it done. Shifting it back and forth is what made no sense.
