Somerville’s small press publications over the years

On December 6, 2018, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

Somerville has been a hotbed for small press publications for decades. From indie comics, to poetry chapbooks, to zines, to left-wing political publications – our 4 square miles have produced far more than what you’d expect.

The Somerville Public Library is proud to partner with the Somerville Media Center to create a display of some of these works. Come to the Media Center, and you’ll see some of what SPL has in its Local History and Local Small Press and Zine collections.

The display will be up from Friday, December 7 until the end of January, at Somerville Media Center, 90 Union Square in Somerville. There will be an opening reception on Friday, December 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Work in the show will include:

  • Zines by Gilmore Tamny, Marissa Falco, Andrea Mildred, Jason Lin, and many others
  • Political publications like Radical America, American Labor History: Women in the Working Class, and Dollars and Sense
  • Poetry chapbooks by Doug Holder, David Miller, Andrine Pierresaint, and others
  • Artzines by Cara Kuball, Greer Muldowney
  • Comics by Dave Ortega, Jordan Stabile and others
  • And much more!

The event is organized by the Somerville Public Library and hosted by the Somerville Media Center.
