The Somerville High Scholarship Foundation had its annual $10K drawing this past Friday night at the High School Highlander Café. Former Mayor Eugene Brune started calling out the numbers around 8:00 p.m.

A smaller number of participants was in attendance, but the dedicated ones were present in hopes of winning. 201 tickets were sold at $100 each, and several present won door prizes.

The last ten tickets were left standing to decide whether to split the prize of $1K each, but only three of them were present. The final three chose to proceed to see if any of them would end up winning, but it came down to a final 5 names, which was decided by the one finalist to end and split, so they all got $2K each.

The foundation began in Somerville to help students with scholarships in the late 80’s and early 90’s, but over the years the Foundation has raised over one million dollars and has awarded thousands every year to deserving students.

If you would like to donate or ask how you can help, you are welcome to write to SHS Foundation c/o Joseph Favaloro at PO Box 440275, Somerville MA 02144.
